good afternoon, everyone!

the topic of my speech today is “being a good listener”.

good listening can always show respect, promote understanding, and improve interpersonal relationship.

many people suggest that parents should listen more to their children, so they will understand them better, and find it easy to narrow the generation gap; teachers should listen more to their students, then they can meet their needs better, and place themselves in a good relationship with their students; students should listen more to their clas**ates, thus they will help and learn from each other, and a friendship is likely to be formed.

what i want to stress is that each of us should listen more to others. show your respect and never stop others till they finish their talk; show you are interested by a supportive silence or a knowing **ile; be open-minded to different opinions even though you don’t like them. in a word, good listening can really enable us to get closer to each other.

许多人认为父母应该多听他们的孩子,所以他们会对它们有更好的理解,并且发现它容易缩小代沟,教师应该多听他们的学生,然后他们可以满足他们的需求,并将自己与他们的学生在一个良好的关系,学生应该多听他们的同学,因此他们会帮助和互相学习,可能会形成和友谊。

我想强调的是，我们每个人都应该多听别人的话。展示你的尊重和从未停止其他人直到他们完成他们的谈话,告诉你感兴趣的一个支持性的沉默或一个会心的微笑,是开放的不同意见,即使你不喜欢他们。简而言之，良好的倾听能使我们彼此更亲近。

good morning,ladies and gentlemen,today i am so happy to stand here to give you a speech.or rather, a real story of mine.

though with time going by,i can still remember what you once told me.you should be a brave girl.**iling,you looked into my eyes.

year in,year out,nearly most of my memories are fading little by little.but only this ****** sentence remained,without being f***otten in my life.

again and again,i can not stop myself from thinking about it.so ordinary,but so impressive,so moving,just like the brightest sunshine,it helps me go through the darkest night.i am such a sensitive girl in your heart.

you said,my sorroful facial expression made feel so distersssed.however,there is one thing i never tell you,that is ,i am being a big girl gradually with your words and **iles.i never tell you about it,for i believe oneday,you can see the great changes of mine for yourself.

that is what i want to do in return.as i know,that will be the best gift for you.

i suddenly think of a song named my heart will go on.there is a beautiful sentence going like this.you are safe in my heart.

more than once,i was moved to tears by it.i know ,i am also safe in your heart.i have already f***otten when i told you i was going to leave for australia this summer holiday.

you just **iled as usual,gently speaking.whatever you decide to do,i will be in favor of it,but, just o***hing,remember,when you fell lonely abroad,do not f***et we are here ,praying for you.we are all around you,far across the distance and space between us.

i closed my eyes,the flashback started.the memories we had together,once we played games on the palyground,we played jokes on each other,you always wrote a lot of sentences on my articles to encourage me.and the most unf***etable thing,you told me,you believed m i could be a big girl.

sooner or later.

at that specific moment,i suddenly understood the meaning of this sentence totally.so on that day,i **iled as you used to,looking at you.the last words i said were,keep walking in sunshine.

yes,keep walking in sunshine.i said to you ,also to myself.i know i am not alone wiht your pany,and we can keep walking in sunshine till the last minute of our days.

i promise,i will be a big girl.

good afternoon ，ladies and gentlemen!

i’m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! my topic is opportunities and challenges.

first, i would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. if i had asked this question to president nixon, he would probably had said,”our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.

”needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the 20xx olympic games. till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. how much changes have you seen?

new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction.

other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly. for example, more and more people will get to know china. i’m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly.

and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit. now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?

i’ve already said a lot about the olympics and china. but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?”

for us, i mean the chinese youth, 20xx olympic games is a tremendous gift. because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us .the society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying ”hey!

***e here and take the helm! ”how charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. this morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the olympic games waving its hand.

after chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the olympic games. and mine is to be a “forter” ----that is someone who will give fort to others.

at the end of my speech, i hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. let us seize opportunities and give a big **ile to challenges.

I am proud of speaking hear.Firstly please to imagine if there is no new power to be found and created ,can lights bring us bright night for our life？If there is no car to be created can we go to school in a much short time ？What’s more, if there was no plane to be created, can people go somewhere home or abroad much faster? So if there is a word has changed the world, I think it’s creative.With creative , an small apple fell from the tree then it hit a young man’s head witch means nothing , but it hit Newton’s head , he began to think and took experiments.Finally he created varieties of scientific theories such as The law of universal gravitation.With creative, Edison invented lights though he failed the experiments thousands of times.Now we can see lights everywhere, streets, buildings, even oceans, or we’ll still stay in the dark.With creative, every country created currency in order to exchange the goods, which way is more convenient and reasonable.In addition, creative has promoted the development of economy.However, if people lacked of creative, the world won’t develop.Without creative, people can’t communicate with each other in different languages.Meanwhile we can’t use the word to record the history so that nobody know what has happened in the past.Without creative, Bill Gates won’t invent the software, which contributes us to surf the Internet such easily and to get a majority of information from websites.Thus you can use one computer to know the whole world.Without creative, Armstrong won’t land on the moon to help scientists explore the secret of space and you won’t see Yang Liwei travel through the space.Because of creative, Yuan Longping created the hybrid rice that saving many people’s lives.Because of creative, the GDP of the republic of China has ranked the second beyond Japan in the world.Because of creative, the space industry of our country is advanced in the world.In total, you know the significance of creative.Whatever, we should cultivate our inspiration of creating.We could pay more attention to the things around us, find the difference, then think carefully, finally try to create.Like fish needs water, bird needs sky, flower needs sunshine, we need creative, which has changed the world.2010级市场营销五班吕鹏

Today, my topic is about “a sport star”. Iwant to talk about is a famous woman football player in our Country.

A girl who loves football, at the age of 12, began to play. She failed to be admitted by the football team for many years , but thecoach always encourages her: "you must be succeed next time." During her training process, she suffered two serious injury, one is almost blind in the right eye; theotheris the left knee joint damage, in addition, her body hasgotdifferent degree of injury. But thosedidn’t stop her from playing , because she said: "I chose this road, I love football too much, this is my favorite cause."

She also said, “who want to make some achievementsor success ,must pay the extra effort, the reason isalsothe sameto any other area. ”

Sun Wenhas been playedfootball for 14 years, she thinks the most important thing is football, it gave hera out of the ordinary life experience, it makes hergenerous, self challenge. She also told us that, only when their team is strong , will it be respectedby audience; only when our country is strong, the motherland will be win the world'srespect.

In 20xx, International Federation of Association Footballgive The title “The Best Woman Football Player of the Millenium” to Sun Wen. At this moment, all China is encouraged.

Though she is retired now, her struggles and spirit are still moving. It will always affect the fans of football, including me. She left an unforgettable wealth for the women's will be respected for her super performance in the sport always.

Sports, including football, make us grow in the wind and rain, make us stronger and more beautiful. Come on, friends, don't wait! Come on, let’s go for dreams!

Thank you very much!非常感谢！在接下来的时间里，我将和大家一起分享一下学英语的苦辣酸甜。最主要的，是想通过我在北大六年教学经历、美国六年生活经历、“新东方”六年教学经历，来和大家交流一下怎能样尽快的提高大家的listeing and speaking comprehensions.

我的经历具体是这样的：我是1980年从内蒙古考到北大的，比大家高了好多届。我在北大学英文，然后又在北大教书。教书六年之后，在1990年，我求学到美国。我发现到了，美国一下飞机，我一句话也听不懂。当时我想，至少我学了几年英文，所以打算继续学英文。正在我在考虑到哪里去的时候，我听到一种说法，叫做everybody in American can speak English。那么我又怎么能够在美国赚钱呢？所以，我必须改变这个想法。于是我该学了学计算机。计算机硕士毕业以后，我在美国的贝尔实验室做了两年的软件工程师。在1995年，“新东方”的创始人俞敏洪来到了美国，在他的建议下，我有回国，开始参加“新东方”的创建。我和俞敏洪在北大是同班同学——“新东方”的五个“创业元老”里有三个是北大的同学。除了我们两个还有一个是“新东方”的图书总策划包凡一老师，他是“新东方”的写作专家。我在大学时代是他们的班长，他们两个当时是全班最落后的学生。我那时的主要精力和时间都花在每天晚上陪他们两个在湖畔散步，劝

他们不要跳下去。我告诉他们说：“你们将来一定会成才的。”到了96年，我在新东方担任副校长的时候，有一个大学生就问我说：“王老师，你上大学时四年都是他们的班长，你现在却是他们的副校长，你的心理平衡怎么找？”我说：“不用找，我现在心理是最平衡的。我当初当班长最大的夙愿就是帮助这两个后进青年成才。今天看到他们已经纷纷成才了，我的夙愿已经了了。平衡彻底找到了。”——我们的确都要找到一个平衡的方法，只有心态平衡下来，你才能够干成伟大的事业。

在美国的时候我学计算机之前，还有一段小插曲。那就是我险些报考了哈佛的人力学系。我离开北大之后，吸引我的学校只有两所，一所是英国的牛津大学，就是Oxford University；另一所呢就是Harvard University。那时候，哈佛大学人力学系的系主任，对我进行了面试之后觉得可以录取我，并且提出可以给我提供五年的Scholarship。他说：“你只要答应我一个条件，”我说：“什么条件？”——这个教授研究的是非常偏的一个科目，所以招生好多年都没有找到一个合适的学生。他是在人力学系研究中国文化中苗族文化的。——他说：“只要你跟我学苗语，我就给你奖学金。”我说：“可以。”但是，我冷静下来之后想：我拿了这些钱，在五年之内，过的是天上人间的日子。就算不能从哈佛大学毕业，也能够肄业。将来至少能够跟孙子夸口说，爷爷当年进过哈佛。但是这还不行，因为我拿到这个学位，最终的目的是要找个饭碗。我就考虑，在北美这样大片的土地上，有多少地方需要我这样的人才呢？——苗族文化专家。通过“研究”，我发现，全北美只有一个地方需要，就是哈佛大学、人力学系、这位老师。所以，如果全北美只有一个机会，他的目标里只有我一个人，那么这个机会对我来说是百分之百的！但是，五年之后，我仍然处于一个非常劣势的地位。我如果能在哈佛大学拿到学位，接下来的梦想就是当上哈佛大学的教授、终身教授。美国大学关于终身教授的规定：只要这个教授不去世，你就别想替代他。我想，万一我六十岁就“夭折“了，那位教授八十多岁还健在，我也还是助教。想到这儿，我就对那位教授说：“I want to learn something different。”

当时是1990年，计算机在美国变得popular。而且招生的指标还有70个，我觉得这是个attract opportunity，于是决定学计算机。如果学计算机，我就可以成为一个“计算机科学家”，就可以make money。但当时，我已经十年没摸过数学了，计算机也从来没有接触过。我想，我能不能学计算机呢？我用亚里士多德的“三段论”来推导这个问题：计算机是人发明的东西，凡是人都应该懂人发明的东西。最后，如果我学不了计算机，我就不是人。得出这个结论之后，我就要做一些实际的调查，看一看计算机到底是什么。我到了纽约最大的书店，看看计算机架上到底有些什么书。其中有两架书，

上面都有两个共同的词，这两个词深深地吸引了我，那就是programming languages。我看见的.其实只有一个词：languages。这个词说明我与计算机是有关系的——我想，汉语是一种language，英文是我的first foreign language，法语是我的二外语，德语是第三外语。这个“编程语言”与我所会的这四门语言一定有共同的地方，所以才能一样叫语言。于是，我就挑了一本书，看自己能不能读懂，结果发现没有一页读懂的。但是我发现了编程中很重要的一样东西，是逻辑流程。我就靠这两点——语言和逻辑，和纽约州立大学计算机系的系主任约会，说：“我是一个非常优秀的人才，你必须录取我。”他看了我的成绩单以后，说：“可是，你在北大学习的四年中，没有一门课程与教学和计算机有关。”我说：“请等一下，我给你陈述一下你为什么必须要我——哈佛大学正在在考虑录取我呢！另外，我有三点非常强的优势。第一，计算机与其他机器相比最重要的特点是它能安装软件，那么什么是软件呢？”他说：“programs 。”我又问：“那么我们用什么来写这个programs呢？”他说：“language。”我说：“那你再看看我的成线单，最重要的一个词是什么？”老师说：“language。”我说：“我已经掌握了四门语言，再学一门方言是易如反掌。”教授说：“有道理。”然后我又说：“计算机能够工作，它离不开人预设的逻辑。我在北大做了六年老师，做老师最大的特点就是训练一个人的逻辑思维结构。我已经

完成了作为一个计算机工作者最基本的训练。第三点，我是搞English的，受到的是想象力的训练。想象力，冠以科学术语就是抽象能力、能够把复杂的东西变成简单的问题的能力。这三点加起来，我足以和这些学计算机的本科学生抗衡了。”他说：“very interesting！你可以把你刚才说的东西写成论文来发表。”我说：“我今天来的目的不是要写文章，是要求你录取我。”他说：“好！”我就这样被录取了。当然，此后的学习过程是暗无天日的，但我还是坚持下来了。我用了半年时间补习了美国大学计算机本科四年的所有主干课程，以全A的成绩进入了硕士研究生的学习。然后用两年读完了硕士课程，在毕业的前夕又非常幸运地进入了美国最好的计算机公司——贝尔实验室。，这时的我沉浸在一个中产阶级的生活里，一个科学工作者成功的兴奋里。
